Weaving the fish ~
Notice how Rosie continually makes her way back towards the whitewater with her cutbacks. If you find yourself too far out on the face of the wave before cutting back, often times you’ll lose the speed of the wave, making the cutback less powerful and speedy. So when you’re ready to cut back, do it, try not to waste any time ‘thinking’ about it.
Also, pay close attention to the very slight shifts in Rosie’s back foot- because a fish is wider than a regular shortboard, shifting the back foot closer to whichever rail you’re turning on, will help put the board more on rail, giving a more powerful turn. In order to shift the backfoot, you slightly shift your weight into your front foot as you replace your backfoot to its new position. Practice moving your feet around! Chances are if you’re digging a rail, your feet aren’t in the ideal spot to turn. Get comfortable moving your feet around and much more will be available to you for turning and utilizing the speed of your board.
