Step Back to Turn ~
On a longboard, it’s important to be on the tail of the board in order to turn. The further back the back foot is over the fin, the sharper the board will turn. Here, in order to stay with the power source of the wave, Shaley uses the cross-step back from the middle of the board to the tail to engage the turn into one fluid movement. By using our step back into the turn, we can use our natural body weight and gravity to engage the rail and make a more powerful turn. The step back to the tail is even more important than cross stepping to the nose, so practice your back steps!
