#tiptimetuesday The Subtle Stall ⏯️ Timing and pacing for noseriding determines when you get to the nose, and how long you’re able to stay there, given the major X factor of the shape of the wave. Having your board be the right speed going into the noseride is a huge co-factor to the success of the perch time. So, how do we control the board speed? If we need to speed the board up entering the section, we push through our back foot on the inside rail, which tips the rail of the board into the wave, therefore generating speed. If we need to slow the board down, which is very commonly needed unless the wave is cupping very fast in front of you, then a Stall is required. The subtle stall can be seen twice here in this clip, but most evidently at :13- it’s the moment right before she takes her last two steps to the nose. Watch how she slightly leans back over her back foot for a quick moment just before taking her last two steps to the nose. This lean back, is a crucial stalling technique that is often used to slow the board down just slightly to match the speed of the pocket or section in front of us. This subtle stall can also be seen very quickly just after the first bottom turn of the wave. She quickly puts pressure into her back foot, before she takes the 4 steps forward. Practice learning these subtle movements, and it will help you unlock the speed control needed to noseride consistently! Surfer: @jojowiththeflo Video: @simplyserene546 Words by: @leahloves
