Background: I've used the Pista Plus, upgraded with Hiro Chuck, for slightly more than a year. I run latex tubes on both my bikes and alternate between them each week. You can imagine how deflated the tires will be when I use the bike one week later. The Pista Plus was solidly built but it was very low volume and took quite a number of strokes to pump up to pressure. SuperPista Ultimate: This pump commands such a presence right out the box. Its friggin' huge compared to the Pista Plus. It is taller, thicker, and has a much bigger base. The finish is as insane as its weight. Absolutely no rattle when the pump is rocked on its base. Pumping efficiency is a lot higher than the Pista Plus: 18 strokes vs 30 strokes for a 23mm GP5000 tire to get up to 90 psi. The gauge is also so much easier to read due to a smaller psi range (0-160psi) vs the Pista Plus (0-220psi). One thing to note, out of the box, the pump stroke of the SPU had quite a bit more resistance than my Pista Plus and the barrel seemed to be slightly leaky. I opened up the barrel and added some NFS pump blood to further soften the leather cup. Next, I removed the base and loosened the 'preload' on the brass check valve. This greatly improved the smoothness of the pump stroke, without any leaks. It became so smooth that the handle will slowly fall back down under its own weight when it is extended. Overall a very impressive pump. Not a need, but it sure makes my daily latex-tubed tire pumping much more enjoyable.
