There are a few common misconceptions about wax. The biggest one might be that "wax is not good for mountain bikes." This could not be further from the truth. Wax wear, which will start with a chirping sound (the roller dropping into the cassette), is an indicator that you will need to re-wax soon, not that the wax is gone. On the other hand, oil-based lubes hide wear and should be re-applied much more often in off-road situations. This is because all of that dirt and dust sticks to oil-based lubes, which exponentially increases wear on your components. We are seeing a huge shift from this market, coming from the top down.
