It's Spotlight time!
Cooler temperatures are on their way, so it’s time to stock up! If you’re in the Seattle area and looking for Spike equipment, look no further than Micro Homebrew in Kenmore. Owned by Tony and Kat Ochsner, this friendly shop has something for every brewer!
When you walk inside, you’re greeted with coolers full of local single and six-packs, shiny stainless steel Spike conicals and a specialty grain and malt section with over 100 different varieties. “We love selling Spike products,” Tony says. "We can feel good that we are giving our customers a quality piece of equipment that will last them a lifetime.”
At home, Tony’s favorite products are his two Spike CF5’s. “I have them on wheels with the temperature control kits,” he says. Tony first got into brewing in 2008 when he received a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. “I made quite a few batches with it, and I was hooked. It’s been a steady progression of new techniques and equipment that continues to this day.”
From novice to expert, Micro Homebrew is a one stop shop! It’s no wonder then that Micro Homebrew was selected among 54 other homebrew stores across the U.S. and won the 2021 Homebrew Shop of the Year Award at the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) National Homebrew Competition this past summer! The stores are evaluated based on support, education, customer service, merits of the community, promotion of homebrewing and responsible business practices.
“We are really committed to getting people into this great hobby,” Tony says. "We're on a very busy road, and we get a lot of people in the store that have always thought about homebrewing but felt intimidated by the process. We explain that the process is very simple and you can make great beer on your stove with a little grain and some extract. Once you start and stuff begins to make sense, there is no end to the creativity you can have!”
