You’re lost at sea. Nothing but blue ocean and sky for as far as the eye can see. The sun beats down on you and the saltwater hypnotically laps at the sides of your makeshift raft.
It’s enough to send shivers down the spine of the saltiest of sea dogs – the thought of being castaway at sea. Your skin blistered by the sun and wrinkled by the salt, your eyes constantly scanning the horizon.
But there’s a modern version to this tale. Right now there are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic adrift on the oceans – each a castaway shipwrecked from our consumer society. Either discarded intentionally or accidentally misplaced, these plastic fragments are left to move on the currents from one land to another. Lost at sea.
