We love this line from our good mate Dan Sipple aka @the.functional.naturopath:
Too many patients I work with say the same thing on the other side of levelling out their hormones which is usually along the lines of “God I was a jerk when I had low testosterone!”. Another popular one is “before I worked on my testosterone, I was happy to bail on everyone and just be a hermit at home”. So pair those two personalities together and a good measure of low self esteem and you get the gist of a guy with low T syndrome.
No man wants to feel that low, tired, flat, weakened anxious/depressed concoction of symptoms that we see in the typical “catabolic state” men dip into when T levels bottom out. Catabolic simply refers to a state of tissue breakdown and muscle loss and is essentially the opposite of anabolic - which is when the body can perform protein synthesis and retain/build new muscle following the breakdown of muscle.
In low testosterone states, it’s my job as a practitioner to work out if there is a primary communication issue between the pituitary and testes, OR an issue with the testes themselves? or sometimes T is getting manufactured perfectly normal but it’s all over-converting down the “estrogenic” pathway via up-regulation of an enzyme called “aromatase”. Herbal medicine can get in there on all the above mentioned levels once we’ve established the roadblocks, along of course with appropriate lifestyle , environment, and diet modifications. If any of these symptoms ring a bell or you have questions, drop us a comment below and we’ll be happy to help. Remember we cannot give direct medical advice over Instagram :)
