As America burns with the pent up rage of a community suppressed and repressed since their first moments on that soil, we have been asking ourselves, what can we even say? We are humbled in our ignorance and we share the grief and the rage that has been magnified recently. We acknowledge that there is always more to learn. We are listening. We are questioning everything. We are aware of our own contradictions, and we are deepening our self inquiry. We borrow from the Taoists (indigenous Chinese culture), the Vedic culture (indigenous to the Indus Valley), we live on soil that has never been ceded. We long for the lore and the stories of this land; we know they are powerful and they will heal us, but they are not our birthright. The blood that has run on this soil and around the world at the hands of colonialists is unforgivable, and yet, to heal, we need to forgive ourselves, forgive our ancestors, and beg forgiveness of those who have been stolen from their country, their families, their culture. Who have been enslaved and oppressed, forced to live in a world that is foreign and unkind and set-up to afford privilege to those with the power. We try to always honour the lineages and cultures from which we borrow wisdom; we hope that our interest and passion helps keep them alive. But we also acknowledge that we are treading on unsteady ground, the line between profiteering and fetishising and bastardising is always there. This story is bigger than any of us, and yet we understand that it is time for us all to turn within and examine how we stand, how we live, and how we move forward. We make a promise that we will continue to deepen our understanding and our respect and our support for communities that have been held back from the privileges afforded by our skin colour. We hope that our company can provide a beacon of hope and we also want to acknowledge what we don't know. We don't now what it looks like, we don't know where it is going, but we do know that if they burn it down, we will help rebuild, and we will be there to support and assist the healing in any way we can. If you have ideas as to how we can help, we would love to hear from you. (Cont. below)
