Great to see this herb finally getting the recognition that it deserves in the extended Western world, unfortunate that it took a pandemic to do so. For nearly 10 years we've spoken about astrag, it was in the line up when we first launched our tonic herb range, and it is what that graces our herbal diet constantly, but especially in the Autumn and Winter when we’re wanting an extra layer of immune protection.
Why is it loved at times like these? Because astragalus is known to the Taoists as the Great Protector.
The Taoists talk of a protective layer of energy that circulates just under the skin called Wei Qi and they were very impressed by astragalus’ ability to tone and fortify this energy via its epic capacity to tonify and fortify the Lungs. It is known that this energy is highly protective and, when strong, can be a powerful “first line of defence” to ensure minimal pathogenic forces are passing into your body and making it a home. Now you may be asking, why the f%$# was I not educated about this intrinsic and very important part of my body and immune system at school rather than, oh I don’t know... parallelograms (still haven’t used it yet...)? Great question! I have no idea, but we’re glad I am able to share this info with you now.
Astragalus is the primary herb in our QI blend also, which is a collection of herbs designed to specifically fortify this surface immunity known as Wei Qi.
Whether you have it solo or in the blend, its a herb we think is highly relevant for us in the West.
