Basically all the herbal adaptogens in China have been used for thousands of years and classed within a system called “tonic herbs,” (note that there’s tonic herbs that don’t classify as adaptogens also). They’re the herbs that healers and those generally wanting greater health have used in their diet ongoingly, this is different to the herbs people take to address a symptom as the intention is the expansion or cultivation of life in the body, and an embodied ability to protect it through long term herbal use.
They’re the herbs that were classed as “Superior Herbs” in the first herbal materia medica over 2 thousand years ago, and the herbs that Taoists saw as being allies and “messengers from Heaven” in their endevours to harmonise and build the 3 Treasures (Jing, Qi, Shen; physical essence, vitality, spirit) that make up our body so that we can have long productive lives with minimised risk of degeneration.
They’re simply gentle enough to be used long term. They’re still medicines though, so it’s not as if they’re all going to work for your body, and that more is better, you gotta respect the herb and the fact that your body will relate to each herb/formula differently. However they can be SERIOUS supporters in restoring health and cultivating long term health, esp. when in combo with epic lifestyle. And when you find those special couple of herbs that is a match made in heaven and opens your organs up to sing, life just gets better.
Which herbs or blends do that for your body?
