AUTUMN đ: Time of the Lung and time to amp up immunity!
Autumn is a time to turn inwards, to âharvestâ and gather inner energy for the colder months ahead, including taking stock of all the growth and insight weâve received over the past year; we donât want to be getting excessively sick during this time!
In tonic herbalism we turn to the great lung herbs at this time of year to nourish their function and help prepare us to transition from Summer with grace (non attachment to the warmer months guys! Feel gratitude for those warm months and let them go) and into Winter free from consistent colds and protected from the flu đˇ, stopping our Qi from becoming ârebelliousâ (respiratory infection, sinuses, colds etc) while keeping the lungs strong enough to energetically make the transitions themselves and let go of what is no longer needed emotionally (this especially includes Daddy issues according to the Tao).
â¨â¨
â¨The first herb is astragalus. If youâve got it sitting there in your apothecary and didnât know when to take it, NOW is the time to hit it HARD. If youâre yet to, get on it guys, itâs a core part of the longevity protocol. It is the primary Qi tonic in the Taoist system, and the greatest herb for strengthening the surface immunity of the body by controlling the circulation of the Wei Qi (the protective Qi) which is the defensive Qi that protects the body from external attacks by viruses like colds and flu. A weakness in the lungs can lead to a weakness in the Wei-Qi, making you prone to frequent colds. So take your astragalus.
â¨â¨
â¨As always keep up your medicinal mushroom practice to help fortify the core of your immunity in preparation for winter. However if you are VERY susceptible to colds then you can further support the lungs by taking straight cordyceps. This mushie has been shown clinically to be specifically inhibiting of the proliferation and seeding of influenza and is a good one to have in your arsenal (itâs in the Masonâs Mushrooms FYI).

So start going into yourselves gang, let go of the crap you no longer need and allow it to become the compost for your growth. Youâll be turning it into soil/wisdom over Winter to emerge anew next Spring.
