The menstrual cycle is a magnificent representation of the continuous dance of YinYang, the waxing and waning of phases within a cycle that so perfectly mirrors that of the earth's, tapping into the deep earthly wisdom that it holds.
In reclaiming the right to unapologetically nourish ourselves throughout each phase, we can honour our cycle with the reverence it deserves.
During the Winter or menstruation phase, we like Qi herbs. It's a time to slow down and create a reflective and gentle space as you embody Yin. Using Qi herbs can reduce any stagnation and in turn, support the flow of Qi and Blood during this time.
Follicular or Spring, as Yin is moving to Yang, you might feel more outward and energetic. It's a time of rebuilding and is the perfect time to eat blood-building foods in preparation for the Yang phase of your cycle. Use herbs that continue to nourish Qi and Blood, as well as tonify Jing Essence and prepare you for ovulation. These include Jing herbs, I Am Gaia and Deer Antler. The Beauty Blend can also be a beautiful addition during this time to support the detoxification channels as you venture into your Summer.
Ovulation or Summer follows, this is when Yang rises, it's the ripening phase, the release of the egg. We like the Yang Jing herbs at this time, to help you cultivate Yang and prepare for the shedding (or the bubs) !
Luteal or Autumn begins after Yang has reached its peak and the journey towards Yin begins. If there is a baby, great, all systems go, if not, then we are shedding and the Heart tells the Liver Qi to drop to prepare for menstruation. This is a time to keep our Liver Qi flowing with grace and ease as stagnancy can worsen PMS. Your body is signalled to slow down before the Winter, so nourishing the nervous system with Shen herbs like Reishi or the SHEN Blend is a beautiful support.
