Stephen Hawking once said “look up at the stars and not down at your feet." This fascinating, historic photograph, showing the Great Equatorial Telescope at the Royal Observatory, was used for research into double star systems well into the late 1960s. Whilst it has been replaced with a more modern system there is something beautiful about this gentle giant that enabled us to see things out of this world.
