“I’m Black & I’m a Cowboy, but they are not connected to the point they need to be attached. I’m tall, I’m quiet, I’m short haired, I’m brown eyed, I’m many things but the only thing ever attached to my cowboy is ‘Black’. I’m a cowboy. I ride the same horses, I drive the same cattle, I drag the same calfs, I wear the same Tecovas. There are many things in this bag of mine but they all stand strong on their own. I am Black. I am Cowboy. And both of those things stand sure footed as the day they stood when I was born or picked up a rope. I don't want any excuses. When I show up, horse in trailer and I leave that ranch I want it clear I’m not a good Cowboy because I’m Black, but I’m a good Cowboy cause I’m a good Cowboy. My chocolate is beautiful but my Cowboy is too. So say I’m Black when your saying I’m Black, But say I’m Cowboy when you're talking Cowboy.
I don’t want love for being a cowboy based off of my color unless it’s a little kid that looks like me looking up wondering if they are welcome. Which is why my goal of putting myself out there is to make it where one day I’m just Cowboy – and that the attachment of Black is no longer a big deal.
