Living in my new postpartum body has taught me more than almost any other experience I’ve ever had. It’s on par with motherhood on its transformational experience.
I’m realizing society wants me to feel bad about this stage of my healing. My extreme diastasis making my “mommy pouch” a constant reminder of having carried two humans. As it’s done for millennia a badge of honor for women the world around for centuries. I’m supposed to feel bad about it.
Shy away from my pooch and find ways to hide her away. This new softness on my body is treated by society as something. To be ashamed of. The very chunk of skin that hangs artfully on the bellies of white women on the walls of the louvre isn’t praised in our modern day society.
So here I am bearing my “new to me” boobies for all the world to see in this thirdlove beauty as a gentle reminder, that for as long as there has been art it has been dedicated to postpartum bodies.
So in case you didn’t tell yourself today yet…
You’re a masterpiece.
