BEFORE THE BAR | This week, we're putting the spotlight on @nicolewhitedesignsinteriors who struck us with the beautiful gem-tone kitchen renovation. We asked the designer herself for some 411 on the project. Here's what she said:⠀

What drove the renovation? ⠀
"My client, a couple, wanted to rip apart their home to create their dream living space."⠀

Did you hit any roadblocks? ⠀
"Yep! While renovating, we discovered the plumbing was rotted and had to be replaced at a hefty price. This was a large expense, which as you'll see later, impacted budget overall. But, that's what happens with renovations - unexpected things come up!"⠀

How did you work with the original space your client had? ⠀
"The kitchen was hidden behind a wall, and was a dark maze when you entered. Our superpower as a design firm is that we never see walls as a deterrent to good design. We'll move anything in reason to so we removed that pesky wall entirely, only keeping the sink in its existing location."⠀

When the space was renovated, did you have a hard time choosing the backsplash? ⠀
"Yes. This backsplash choice was also the MOST agonizing decision. The original plan was for a quartz slab backsplash but the plumbing nightmare we mentioned meant we had to make some budget changes and this was one of them. But man what a happy budget decision that ending up being! This tile is available in multiple colors and we were all divided on white, green, or black. Black for the win and man it's a stunner.”⠀

Any last words? ⠀
"All great renovation projects have a juicy behind the scenes story where so many things went wrong before they went right. And that's the magic we hope designers understand will ultimately happen if they have the patience to hang in there. We live for the thrill of the process and to see the joy on our clients faces when it's all done. Be flexible and creative as well with your design plan. That flexibility led us to this stunning tile we used for this project and pushed our client far out of her comfort zone, and she thanks us every day for doing so."⠀
