WE DID IT!!!The last nine months our family has been living in a nightmare but yesterday the Federal Health Minister and the Australian Government changed our reality and the reality of hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of Australian families forever.

We can now announce that yesterday @greghuntmp told us in a meeting that he had approved a health initiative called ‘Mackenzie’s Mission’.

Yes MACKENZIES MISSION!!!!
.
In short they said yes to basically everything we asked for!!!!!! They have been tirelessly working on it for months. To say we are happy proud and humbled does not cover our emotions.
.
This is a four pronged national initiative under the Medical Research Futures Fund.
.
1. Eventually every Australian couple will have access to routine and subsidized genetic carrier testing. It will allow each couple to know what they might carry and what genetic conditions they might inadvertently pass on to their children. Information is power!
.
2. Mackenzie’s Mission will also help to educate people including medical professionals about genetic disorders and genetic testing.
.
3. It will also look into options of helping couples found to be carriers of genetic disorders through areas such as IVF.
.
4. It will help to fund research/treatments for genetic disorders.
.
This is one of the largest health initiatives in Australia EVER. It puts Australia up there as one of the leading countries for genomics.
.
This is just the beginning and will take a HUGE amount of work to create but the Australian Government is willing and committed. So are we.

This has taken so much hard work by so many people: Geneticists, Pathologists, Neurologists, Health Economists, the Department of Health, Federal and State Ministers and the Australian Government. So many unsung hero’s who have worked so hard on this for so long. Also a huge thanks to @abcnews_au @sophiescott2

I am so proud to be Australian today. We may talk about issues and fighting within the Australian Government but this is the good they can do. They can change lives and they are. With this decision they will be saving thousands of families suffering and heartache.
