I’ve been told before that I don’t talk enough about how hard it is being a mom. Or how I’ve made it look too easy with finding the time to workout so I want to explain where I am coming from. I made a promise to myself when I was pregnant with my twins to never use them as an excuse to not workout and stay healthy. I made a promise to myself to focus on everything I have GAINED from becoming a mom instead of what I have lost (time, freedom, some sanity ?). I gained so much perspective from being a personal trainer to a large number of moms that I learned a lot from them.
I learned that if I made myself a priority 45 minutes out of the day I would be a nicer, patient, and happier mom.
I learned that a lot of times it’s monkey see monkey do. If I wanted my kids to have the best chance at leading healthy lives it was going to start with ME. If I wanted them to eat healthy that means I need to buy the healthy good stuff and eat it too. If I want them to know what an active healthy lifestyle is, I need to lead by example.
This is just genuinely how I think and perceive being a mom is with leading a healthy and active life. We can focus on how hard it is, or we can focus on how lucky we are to be blessed with our kids. We can focus on how much time and work they take or we can focus on how much joy they bring to our lives. We can focus on how tired they make us and skip working out or suck it up, get that 30 minute workout and feel ten times better about ourselves. So much of this is about perspective (pretty much most of life is) and by keeping mine in check, I have been getting consistent workouts in since my littles were six weeks old. It IS realistic. My best advice is to throw away the mindset of thinking about what is hard and what is easy. Stop focusing on that and focus more on what will make you a better person that day. What will make you a better mom, wife, or human being?
It’s a choice and I choose to focus on how much they ADD to my life. ?
