What is a hob? What is a mold cavity? And how do they ensure that every Titleist golf ball you tee up is as consistent as the last one? ⬇️ A hob is the machine tooling used to create the cavities for molding a golf ball’s cover and dimple pattern. Tens of thousands of cavities are needed to supply our urethane casting lines. Every hob is also manufactured in-house, by Titleist associates, through a process that utilizes advanced machining technology. (To make one hob, it takes 24 hours.) It’s a difficult and expensive process, but it’s the only way to ensure that every single mold cavity produces the same precise result, providing golfers with consistent flight and ball-to-ball consistency.
