(Public use) Cabin Core: Alaska edition. š„šŖµ
Can you believe thereās cabins you can ski (or hike or bike) in & out of, nestled in the wilderness w endless trails to play outside with your pals/person/pups, you can just rent out for a very reasonable cost?! Itās the perfect balance of being off-grid w the coziness & comfort of walls, a table for all your card games, & a fire to keep things toasty.
šš¼ Want to see if thereās places like this in your state? Just search āpublic use cabins inšā! Usually theyāre run by state parks & rec. Pro tip: PLAN AHEAD! These spots book months in advance. Iām already starting to book for the fall & winter!
Hereās where we went this season:
1 - Juneau Lake Cabin on Res Pass - perched on a hill overlooking the lake, this cabin was as charming as they come.
2 - Swan Lake Cabin - a few miles past Juneau, and just as lovely. FYI: thereās canoes here in the summer!
3 - āHAPPYā sums this one up pretty well. This was an anniversary trip to remember at Hatcherās Pass Lodge. FYI: This is a private cabin with a lot more amenities. You can enjoy hot meals & live music in a lodge steps away from, and thereās a sauna & natural cold plunge on-site!
4 - Hatcherās Pass stay # 2 - and this time in one of the iconic red huts. This place looks magical around the clock.
5 - Serenity Falls Cabin on Eklutna Lake - this was our first trip + first snow of the season & our first bikepack together. 11 miles each way was a breeze on wheels. FYI: no dogs allowed!
6 - Dale Clemens - the location & view from this cabin are unmatched. Do not recommend pulling a sled up there though. š„µ
7 - Dale Clemens the redo - Sam & their friend went up for a night and once again, pure magic. FYI: this one uses a kerosene stove for heat and it takes a while to heat up!
8 - Rhein Lake Cabin - one of our all time favorites. An easily accessible spot that fit a bunch of pals perfectly.
9 - Yuditna Cabin on Eklutna - It was cold so we hauled in a ton of wood, but turns out 8 humans + 2 pups in a tiny cabin keeps things real toasty by itself.
10- Tutka Bay Yurt - a breezy ferry ride from Seward to this mossy oasis on the sea with epic ridgeline hiking straight from camp.
