Aloha! š“ Itās 2020 and what a week for LGBTQ+ rights! Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that LGBTQ+ Americans are protected against workplace discrimination - a week ago the Trump administration submitted aĀ briefĀ to the Supreme Court arguing that a taxpayer-funded adoption organization should be able to refuse to work with same-sex couples. .
We are white, straight-passing women. Iāve never been more aware of my privileges based on the way I look than during the past few weeks. kalesthecook and are listening to Me and White Supremacy together, taking a deep look at our biases and thinking about the kids we are (many) years from (hopefully) adopting and the world we want to raise them in. The beautiful thing about adopting is that our kids arenāt guaranteed to look like us - we donāt know the color of their skin, their abilities, their sexual orientation or gender identity or how the world we live in will treat them.

No mama(s) we arenāt adopting anytime soon. But Iāll be damned if Iām lucky enough to raise a Black or brown, gay or trans kid in a country where it has to be afraid of discrimination or white supremacist hatred.
