Last quarter, the Vacation Inc. Poolside Towel Stocking Department set sail for urgent business aboard the venerable S.S. Leisure, the watercraft home to many of the department’s most famed debates on company practices. With one of the most pressing matters they had dealt with that quarter, they left Miami Beach Marina with the hopes of finally settling their most hotly debated operational hiccup: Proper Beach Towel Preparation Technique.
The group stood in a dead heat between the fabled “Rolled” and illustrious “Folded” techniques as the S.S. Leisure bounded over one of the Florida Reef Tract’s most beautiful coral vistas. The only holdout, and the evident tiebreaker to the issue, was the longtime Executive Cabana Boy, James Lax.
Historically, the Folded Towel Technique had been a favorite of the company’s Towel-Stacking Deputy Manager, and longtime confidant of Lax, Brandon Smith (pictured on deck, far right). Smith’s contention of Folded superiority was based on the assertion that the volume displayed by the technique would “give the impression of a panoramic, comprehensive towel experience.”
Proponents of the Rolled Towel Technique, such as the ever Sailor-Suited Executive Laundrette Chief Gregory Daniels (pictured, far left), instead argue that a folded towel could “never hope to create the luxurious sensation of gripping a neatly wrapped and elegantly displayed rolled towel”.
Lax knew that this moment would be remembered by the press and corporate historians as a defining one for the department, and in a shocking turn of events, voted in favor of the Rolled Towel Technique.
Smith was awestruck, but came to appreciate the tenacity of the high stakes decision by Lax when Vacation® Inc. was granted the Robert A. Deansberry Award of Excellence from the National Foundation for the Prevention of Poolside Spills.
Needless to say, this legendary tale continues to reverberate through the hallowed halls of our esteemed Miami HQ to this day. And we expect it to continue to spark fervent discussions, passionate rivalries, and an unwavering pursuit of poolside perfection among Vacation® employees for generations to come.
