The Curated Collection highlights the unique and exceptional pieces that stood out among the rest for our GIA qualified gemmologist and Managing Director, Joseph Tattersfield.
"I love early New Zealand jewellery, it matches my passion for New Zealand themed decorative goods of the post war years, think Crown Lynn, Whites Aviation et al. This is, to me, a great example of this time, a slight naivety of design where production was small scale and slightly “Dad and Dave”. It follows that the piece is not overly well executed, it is sterling silver with paua sections providing strong contrasting elements. Note the engraved piece of paua employed to represent the warrior’s piupiu. The silver has also been textured to provide reference to the grass, the feathers on the tahi and to also highlight the warrior’s moko. To me, this is a rare and very collectible piece of NZ mid-century commercial jewellery." - Joseph Tattersfield
