Every week we ask you to help us #spreadthelust (STL) and get more people stoked about having a Waterlust state of mind. This week's contest is focused on the theme "growth”
It's well understood that plants need water to grow, but when you stop and think about it, do you really know why this is? The reasons can be explained through four processes: germination, photosynthesis, nutrient transfer and transpiration. Step numero uno for a little baby seed is for water to activate the germination process, or the "birth" of a sprout. Here water kicks enzymes into gear and softens the seed, allowing the little guy to burst through! Once it gets out, a plant uses water and carbon dioxide to produce energy it can use to grow through photosynthesis. Plants also absorb important nutrients from the soil through water and give off waste products into the air through transpiration. In short, water is really, really important for our leafy friends and this week we want you to submit photos that capture this dependency!
This week's winner gets tons of positive karma along with having their work showcased on our social media outlets. All entries must be submitted between now and Monday, July 13th at 12pm EST. They must contain the hashtags #STLgrowth and #Waterlust to be eligible. Official rules are published at www.waterlust.
