Totem poles in the Pacific Northwest of North America are not only aesthetically beautiful and visually powerful, but they document important information about cultural heritage and family lineage of native peoples. While in Ketchikan we were lucky enough to visit Totem Bight, an Alaskan state historic site open to the public that works to preserve this incredible tradition. These poles come from the Tlingit and Haida Indians, standing tall on the coast overlooking the Tongass Narrows.
