The family that lives in this Houston Heights home moved south from the Midwest to enjoy year-round outdoor living. Their newly built home is beautiful, but their first pass at a backyard—an exposed deck and expanse of lawn—proved unlivable. Between Houston’s sun and rain, the backyard was either too hot or too damp. To make this space more ideal for all-seasons living, we added a pergola for shade (including a fan!) and concrete pavers throughout the yard to create a dry, well-drained entertaining space. We also added a lemon tree—perfect for lemonade and cocktails—and pet-safe plants for their two dogs. And, you know we love a built-in, so we added a modern,
poured-concrete bench. #myyardzen
