For three years, they saw action together in France and Belgium with the 4th battalion of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, gaining promotions for their bravery and earning the admiration of their men.
They enlisted together, fought side by side in the trenches and watched each other’s back. They survived mustard gas, were wounded and received awards for gallantry. And on Oct 9th, 1917 both were killed within the hour in the Battle of Passchendaele. First Ronald Moorhouse, 22, a captain, was mortally wounded during a raid, then Harry Moorhouse, 48, an acting lieutenant colonel, was killed by a sniper as he sought to rescue the stricken Ronald....his son.
Due to the heavy shelling that day, their bodies were never fully recovered. In a span of an hour, Susanna Moorhouse had been widowed and without a son. #fathersday #reality #ww1
