When the US entered World War I, it became clear to just how brutal trench warfare was, and how great the need was for a large amount of close-range firepower while fighting in a trench: enter the M97 Trench Gun.
With its 20in cylinder bore barrel, buck shots and bayonet, it was deal for close combat and handing out facelifts. Besides being used as a force multiplier, American soldiers who were skilled at trap shooting were armed with these guns and stationed where they could fire at enemy hand grenades in midair.
The enhanced feature of not having a trigger disconnector, allowed the user to keep firing each time the action closed with the trigger depressed (slam fire) emptying all shots with great speed, thus earning the term "trench sweeper". The shotgun was such a demoralizing weapon, that the German gov. issued a diplomatic protest stating that it caused 'unnecessary suffering' and did not abide by the laws of war....to which no one gave a fuck about because it continued to see service well after stacking Jerry. #slamfireparty #shotgun #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #ww1 #getsome
