In 2019, a team of the British SBS was conducting a night raid against AQ in Afghanistan when they came under heavy fire.
Pinned down by grenades and MG fire, Kuno, a Belgian Malinois attached to the unit, charged across the hail of bullets while wearing night vision and attacked the insurgents.
His ferocity changed the course of the mission and helped the SBS team regain the initiative and complete the mission.
During his charge, Kuno was shot in both legs, with a bullet nearly missing the artery. He needed several life-saving operations but the vets had to amputate part of his rear paws.
Within months, he was fitted with a custom-made prosthesis and orthotic brace; making him the first military dog to be fitted with such device.
Kuno will be awarded the Dickin Medal in November, which is equivalent to the Victoria Cross.
He will the 72nd recipient, with previous recipients which include 34 dogs, 32 Pigeons, 4 Horses and one cat.
