In the early stages of operation Phantom Fury, Marines from Kilo Co. 3/5 were tasked with clearing out the Jolan District of Fallujah.
On Nov 10, 2004, a Marine entered a courtyard where he was immediately ambushed and killed by MG fire. Two more Marines rushed in but they too were also gunned down.
PFC. Christopher Adlesperger rushed in under fire and rescued the two wounded Marines by leading them up a staircase and onto the rooftop. He then began blowing holes in the walls with his 203 and started sending souls to the afterlife.
With shrapnel wounds to his face from enemy grenades,
Adlesperger managed to single handedly kill 11 insurgents, destroy an MG position and save the lives of his Marines in less than. 30 minutes.
For his actions, he was awarded the Navy Cross.
But several weeks later, he was shot multiple times while running point during a raid on another house.
As he approached the house, a surprise burst of enemy rounds struck Adlesperger’s body armor, spinning him around and exposing his side, at which point he was shot in the heart and died immediately.
He was only 20 years old. #semperfi #marines #zerofoxtrot #stayzero
