On the night of March 30, 1967, 2nd Lt. John Bobo and his company Marines from 3/9 were establishing an ambush site near Con Thien when all of the sudden they were attacked by an overwhelming NVA force.
Bobo organized a hasty defense until a mortar severed his right leg below the knee. Under unbearable pain, he refused medical attention, used his web belt as a tourniquet, jammed his stump into the dirt and remained in his position delivering devastating fire into the enemy ranks.
With communist bodies being slayed and knowing that he wouldn't make it back, he ordered his men to retreat while he stayed behind, alone to fight the enemy head on.
At that moment, he was killed by enemy fire. His actions helped his men regain the initiative and repulse the attack.
At 24 years old, with only a few months left in country, Lt. Bobo would posthumously receive the Medal of Honor. #hero #semperfi #marines #stayzero #zerofoxtrot
