Bryan Knight was 5 years old when he said goodbye to his father, Col. Roy A. Knight Jr. (Pictured), at Love Field in Dallas who was shipping out to Vietnam.
On May 19, 1967, Colonel Knight, 36 years old, was shot down during a strike mission on the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos, according to the military, which initially listed him as missing in action and then declared him dead in 1974.
52 years later, scientists used a dental analysis to identify Colonel Knight’s remains.
On Aug 8, 2019, Bryan Knight, his son, who was piloting for Southwest Airlines for over 20 years, flew back the remains of his father to the same airport where he said goodbye.
His remains were escorted by a military honor Guard and was given a long overdue hero's welcome home.
Col. Knight flew combat missions on a daily basis, enlisting in the Air Force at the age of 17, following the footsteps of his older brothers who fought in WW2.
