On Nov. 22, 1942, Stanley James Ledger Lee Hill and his men from the British 3 PARA were coming up against a fortified Italian and German position near Medjez el Bab, Tunisia which included 300 enemy soldiers and 3 tanks.
Hill had planned to force the enemy to retreat into a field of mines behind them which a group of Royal Engineers were to set up, but a faulty grenade in their stores led to an explosion and the death of some of the engineers.
Now under fire from fortified positions, with no fucks to spare and armed only with a revolver, Hill charged the three tanks head on and killed the crews of two of the tanks by poking his revolver in the observation hole. While moving onto the third, he was hit 3 times in the chest (which he survived, somehow). After giving his men a fighting chance by drawing out the crew of the third tank, they were victorious. For his actions, Hill was awarded the Distinguished Service Order.
Upon recovering from his wounds, Hill jumped into Normandy in 1944 during D-Day, where he took a bullet in the buttocks from a strafing German fighter and walked it off like it was no big deal.
He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge and parachuted into Germany in 1945 where he earned another Distinguished Service Order and the Silver Star by the US.
