On March 27, 1945 Private 1st Class Bobbie L. Merrill (305th IR, 77th ID) and his testicles were manning a machine gun position protecting the left flank of a ridge above the town of Asa, Zamami Shima, Ryukyu Islands, when all of the sudden, the enemy fucked up and launched a massive attack.
Bearing the brunt of the assault and despite being severely wounded in the face and arms from shrapnel (to make it fair for the enemy) Private Merrill delivered deadly fire and succeeded in repulsing the attack. He refused to withdraw and remained at his post, fighting off two more fanatical attacks which eventually overran his position.
Wounded once more in the leg, he realised his fuck o meter was empty, so he engaged the Japanese in hand-to-hand combat and managed to empty his pistol at point blank range. He then used an entrenching tool, attacked and killed a Japanese officer, seized the dead man's Katana sword and began killing more of the enemy, who in turn fled in terror.
27 Japanese dead were counted the next morning in and around his machine gun position, while he still remained at his post until releaved.
For his actions, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. (Image doesn't reflect the person, location or action). #hardfuck #slayer #stayzero #zerofoxtrot
