Since its international women's day, we figured Nancy Wake should put some of you fuckers in check.
At the outbreak of WW2, Nancy Wake was far from a damsel in distress. As an officer with British SOE, Nancy parachuted deep behind enemy lines to wreak havoc on the Nazis. Trained in hand-to-hand combat, espionage, sabotage, and able to drink almost all of her male counterparts under the table, Nancy Wake was known as one of the most fearsome French Resistance fighters during World War II.
By 1942, the Gestapo had put her at the top of their most wanted list, offering a 5 million franc prize for her capture, dead or alive. They referred to her as the “White Mouse,” as she had managed to evade capture several times throughout the war.
She was in charge of over 7,500 Maquis soldiers, led night raids, attacks, sabotage missions, rescue operations and Intel gathering.
At one point, being aware of this large group of Maquis, the Germans sent in 22,000 soldiers to wipe them out. However, due to Wake's extraordinary organizing abilities, they were able to defeat them causing 1,400 German deaths, while suffering only 100 among themselves.
During one raid on a German gun factory, an investigating SS sentry was about to raise the alarm, so she killed him with her bare hands.
Wake further proved her devotion to the resistance when she rode 380 miles round trip on a bicycle through German checkpoints, to transfer a message from her resistance group to another, all within a 72 hour period.
Throughout the war, Nancy Wake saved thousands of lives, most notably those of her Maquis comrades. She was awarded the Medal of Freedom by the United States, The Medaille de la Resistance and the Croix de Guerre from France, and countless other honors from European nations, becoming one of the Allies'most decorated servicewomen. #hardfuck #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #internationalwomensday
