Captain Noel Godfrey Chavasse is the only person to have been awarded the Victoria Cross twice in WW1, and is still one of only 3 people to have received it twice. The Royal Army Medical Corps Captain received his first medal during the Battle of Somme. He crawled through No Mans Land to within 25 yards of the German lines in order to reach wounded men. He rendered life saving first aid all through the night under constant sniper and shell fire. His actions saved the lives of 20 men. His second Cross, he received posthumously after he continued to care for the wounded during the Battle of Passchendaele in August 1917, despite being severely injured by shellfire. He died from his wounds at a Casualty Clearing Station two days later. The cane was issued to help manage weight distribution caused by his balls. #ww1 #hero #hardcore #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #uk
