U.S. Marine John J. Kelly knew he was destined to do one thing: slay Germans; and when he shipped out to France in 1918, that's exactly what happened.
As infantryman with the 78th Co. 6th Marines, 2nd Div, he took part in some of the most ferocious battles including Château-Thierry, St. Mihiel, Blanc Mont and the Meuse-Argonne offensive.
His coolness under fire and body stacking skills would earn him 5 Silver Stars, and his bravery 2 purple hearts.
On Oct 3rd, during the fighting at Blanc Mont, he mounted a single man charge across 100 yards of open field as friendly artillery fire was dropping right behind him and German fire in front of him. He reached the enemy trenches, taking out an MG nest with a hand grenade and his pistol. Not only that, but managed to return through the artillery barrage with 8 prisoners.
Kelly would later be dubbed the Hero of Blanc Mont and would receive 2 Medals of Honor for his actions.
During his medal ceremony, he was just a Private while waiting in line with Major Generals to receive their awards.
Kelly would be the last skullfucker to ever receive 2 Medals of Honor. #slaybodies #getsome #marines #hardcore #stayzero #zerofoxtrot
