The story of George Washington Bacon (can't get more fucking American than that) spans from the jungles of Vietnam to the bushes of Africa.
In 1968, at the age of 22, George was already serving as a Green Beret medic supporting SOG operations in Vietnam. Because his medical training was considered too valuable to hazard, especially considering that SOG's casualty rate exceeded 100%, he was ordered to remain on base, but his hatred for communism was so great, he would regurarly go AWOL to join Recon teams going over to Cambodia in order to collect his share of skulls.
After discharge from the military in 1969, Bacon had difficulty reintegrating into civilian life...so he joined the CIA, most notibly the Special Activities Division. While on covert operations, Bacon carried around his pet gerbils, chewed incessantly on a toothbrush, and secured his Rolex watch with a cord for a wristband. At night he would sleep naked, crunching crackers and read obscure books and articles.
He was sent to Laos in 1971, conducting a secret war against communist forces, fighting side to side with local guerrilas even though his superiors would order him to stay back on base. Regardless, his leadership and bravery earned him the Intelligence Star.
By 1975, he was so disgusted with American policy, handling of covert ops and red tape that he quit the CIA.
In 1976, he decided to go kill more communists in Angola as a mercenary for the FNLA. He trained the locals, conducted raids and ambushes. On Feb 14, while attempting to blow up a bridge, George W. Bacon was killed by MPLA forces. His body was never recovered.
Some say he was still working for the CIA while in Africa. From what records that are available from his time with the CIA is this: he went operational with the CIA’s Para-Military service in 1971.
There is no record of when his service ended.
From Vietnam, to Cambodia, to Laos, and finally Angola, George Washington Bacon was a man who lived his life exactly the way that he chose. #commieslaying #cia #sog #stayzero #zerofoxtrot
