On the night of September 27, 1918 First Lt. William Turner (not the cheesedick from POTC) was leading a small patrol deep into the German lines near Ronssoy, France when they came under murderous MG and artillery fire. Without hesitation, he singlehandedly rushed the MG nest head on with only his pistol, killed the gun crew and advanced further into the enemy trenches. Although wounded 3 times, he managed to clear 3 trenches, and when he ran out of pistol ammo, he began killing the enemy with his bare hands. He then kept stacking Germans with an enemy rifle until all of its rounds were expended and after which, he took out another MG nest with only his bayonet. With all enemy positions destroyed, Turner and the reminder of the surviving men held off an enemy counter attack despite being completely surrounded. He was killed by the enemy while he fought to his last breath. At the age of 25, First Lt. Turner of the 105th Inf., 27th Div. AEF was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor and is buried at the Somme American Cemetery. #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #ww1 #hardcore
