On May 2nd 1945, the Marines from G.Co. 2/5 were tasked with taking a hill on the island of Okinawa. Amongst the assaulting force, stood an 18 yeard old Corpsman named Robert E. Bush.
As they made their way up, 11 Marines were immediately killed or wounded; the Lt was one of them.
Against murderous MG and mortar fire, Bush ran towards his Lt., and began administering plasma trying to revive him. Simultaneously, the Japanese rushed his position, so with no fucks to spare, he held the plasma bottle with one hand, and fired his pistol with the other until his ammo ran out.
To make matters worse, 3 grenades went off near him, piercing his body with shrapnel and blinding him in one eye..still he held his ground and protected the wounded Lt.
Bush then grabbed an M1 carbine and began killing more Japanese until he killed all of them.
When the fighting was over, he began to provide first aid to the rest of the wounded, and refused medical treatment until every other wounded was taken care of.
Robert E Bush would be the youngest member of the Navy to receive the Medal of Honor. #ww2 #balls #hero #stayzero #zerofoxtrot
