The following is a prime example of devotion to your brothers.
On 25 September 1915 in Fauquissart, France Rifleman Kulbir Thapa (3rd Gurkha Rifles), was severely wounded after an assault on a German trench.
Thapa noticed a British soldier who was also wounded laying in the barbed wire between the newely taken trench and the German line. Although Thapa could have easily saved himself, the Gurkha crawled forward and stayed with the wounded man all day and night...within spitting distance from the Germans.
Early next day, in misty weather, he quietly dragged him through the old German wire, leaving him in a place of comparative safety. Thapa then returned and brought in two other wounded Gurkhas, one after the other. He then went back, and, in broad daylight, fetched another soldier, carrying him most of the way under enemy fire.
Such an incredible act of faith and courage had by now attracted a good deal of attention, and when he emerged for the third time with one more wounded comrade over his shoulder, the German soldiers stopped firing and actually clapped their hands to encourage the Gurkha on. He personally brought all of the wounded back to friendly lines.
For his actions, Thapa was awarded the Victoria Cross and would be the first Gurkha to receive it during WW1. #ww1 #gurkha #ballsdeep #badass #stayzero #zerofoxtrot
