On April 18, 1942, 16 B-25 bombers and 80 Airmen led by Lt. Col. James Dolittle, took off from the deck of the USS Hornet in Japanese held water to strike the enemy in their homeland to avenge Pearl Harbor. With no fighter escort, little to no onboard weapons, flying an experimental aircraft while attempting to not die on take off, loaded with enough fuel that wouldn't take them back home, with bombs, balls and heart, these raiders volunteered to take part in what was considered an impossible mission, with certain chance of death, capture or both. Even though all bombers were lost, the bombing itself causing little damage to the infrastructure, and with only 3 KIA and 8 airmen in captivity, the mission achieved its goal of raising American morale and to send a clear message that America is not to be fucked with. #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #ww2 #badass #pilot
