Bad ass of the week goes to this British Highlander Alistair Urquhart
- Drafted in the British Army in 1939 at the age of 19
- Fought in the Battle of Singapore and was captured by the Japanese
- As a POW, he was sent to work on the Burma Railway aka Death railway (285 miles) which took the lives of more than 100,000 people during its construction.
- After surviving years of cholera, malnutrition and torture, he was boarded on a captured American cargo ship bound for Japan
- That ship was torpedoed by a US submarine. The ship went down and he was the sole survivor despite having been completely burned and having ingested motor oil.
- Floating in the ocean for 5 days with no food or water, he was captured once again by the enemy
- He was then sent to a labor camp in Nagasaki and survived the atomic bomb
- He passed away at the age of 97 in 2016.
