SSgt. Edward A. Carter, Jr. Joined the Army in 1941 and was attached to the 12th Armor Div. His career would eventually lead him through 3 different wars and many campaigns.
On 23 March 1945, near Speyer, Germany, a tank on which he was riding received heavy bazooka and small arms fire. Carter voluntarily attempted to lead a three-man group across an open field to kill the ambushing force. Within a short time, two of his men were killed and the third seriously wounded. Continuing on alone, under heavy enemy fire, he was wounded five times and finally forced to take cover. As eight enemy riflemen attempted to capture him, Carter killed six of them and captured the remaining two. He then crossed the field using as a shield his two prisoners from which he obtained valuable information concerning the disposition of enemy troops.
For his actions, SSgt. Carter was initally awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (later upgraded to a Medal of Honor), the Bronze Star and 3 Purple Hearts. Hardfuck approved. #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #ww2 #badass #nofear #greatestgeneration
