On Jan. 10, 1943, the Marines from 2/8 were given the task to find and kill all Japanese forces in Guadalcanal. The men from weapons company were led by none other then Capt. Henry P. Crowe; a Kentucky native who fought in 3 different wars and received multiple combat awards to include the Navy Cross, Silver Star, 3 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts and the British DSC.
As the men advanced, they were ambushed by 7 machinegun nests. Under a hail of bullets, Capt. Crowe stood up and told his Marines: "Goddamn it! You'll never get a Purple Heart hiding in a foxhole. Follow me!" If you inspire to catch a Purple heart, your fucks are pretty much gone. So, the Marines followed and eventually took out the enemy emplacements.
We'll leave out the fact that Capt. Crowe fought his way through Tarawa, Saipan and Inchon during the Korean War; serving a total of 40 years and living till 92. Plus points for the stache game. #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #marines #ww2 #badass
