This hardcore warrior is Msgt. Llewellyn Chilson. An Ohio native, son of a World War I vet and one of the most decorated combat soldier of World War II. - Enlisted in the army in 1942 - Fought in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany - Received 3 Distinguished service crosses, 3 silver stars, 3 purple
hearts and 2 bronze stars. - He survived the landings in Sicily, Anzio and Southern France - On Feb 16, 1944, near Aprilia, Italy, he and 3 other Americans were captured by the Germans after running out of ammo during a firefight and were made litter-bearers for German forces. The 4 Americans managed to escape a few days later taking with them 4 enemy prisoners. Msgt. Chilson then went back and captured 40 more. - On Oct. 28, 1944, Msgt. Chilson single handedly captured a hill and 25 enemy soldiers during Operation Dragoon - On March 26, 1945, Msgt. Chilson once again captured 200 enemy prisoners while conducting combat operations in Germany. - He was nominated twice for the Medal of Honor, but never received it. The War Dept. found his actions commendable, but not worthy of the MOH - Msgt. was honorably discharged in 1946, but waved his 40% disability and re-enlisted in 1947. - He finally retired in 1964, moved to Tacoma and managed a gas station and a taxi cab until his death in 1981 “This is the most remarkable list of citations I have ever seen.
