During the Korean War, 24 year old Pvt. William Speakman-Pitt and the men of Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) British Army, attached to 1st BN King's Own Scottish Borderers, were tasked with defending United Hill. On Nov. 4 1951, the communist forces launched a massive attack, beginning with an artillery barrage followed by waves of soldiers. When the section holding the left shoulder of the company's position had been seriously depleted by casualties and was being overrun by the enemy, Private Speakman, on his own initiative, collected six men, a pile of grenades, and led a series of charges. Despite being wounded in the leg, he continued his attack. When he ran out of grenades and fucks, he began throwing beer bottles at oncoming horde. The bottles were in fact beer bottles sent to the line for platoon consumption (Morale Bonus Points), By the time the platoon were attacked, the bottles were empty, thus constituting suitable weaponry. "It was hand-to-hand; there was no time to pull back the bolt of the rifle,” he recalled. “It was November, the ground was hard, so grenades bounced and did damage.” He and his men held off over 600 enemy soldiers in a span of 4 hours, giving enough time for his company to withdraw to a safe position. For his actions, Pvt. Speakman was awarded the Victoria Cross, and at the current age of 88, we can only assume that he never bought a beer ever again. #zerofucks #nofucks #stayzero #zerofoxtrot #badass
