Enter this badass: Stanley E. Hollis. As a Co. Sgt. Major in the British Army, he managed to leave his salt trails across many battlefields. In 1939, Hollis enlisted in the 4th BN "Green Howards" and was soon mobilized to the front, surviving Dunkirk, El-Alamein and Sicily (where he was also wounded). By the time June 1944 rolled through, his level of fucks had just hit the zero mark, but decided to take it a step further.
On the morning of June 6, his men landed on Gold Beach, and the Germans greeted them with mortars, machineguns and landmines. Two pillboxes were pinning his company down, so Hollis sprung to action and charged across the dunes; dodging the hail of bullets trying to cut him down. He reached the first pillbox, shoved his Sten barrel through a slit and began slaying Jerry. Then he climbed on the roof and popped a grenade inside for good measure. He then rushed the second pillbox, taking 26 prisoners. He next cleared a neighboring trench.
Later that day, he led an unsuccessful attack on an enemy position containing a field gun and Spandau machine guns. After withdrawing, he learned that two of his men had been left behind; and said to his commanding officer, Major Lofthouse: "I took them in. I will try to get them out." Taking a grenade from one of his men, Hollis carefully observed the enemy's pattern of behaviour and threw it at the most opportune moment. Unfortunately, he had failed to prime the grenade; but the enemy did not know that, and kept their heads down waiting for it to explode. By the time they had realized their mistake Hollis was on top of them, and had shot them down.
For his heroic actions, Co.SgtMaj. Hollis was awarded the Victoria Cross, the only one awarded on D-Day (even though he was recommended for the medal twice). His campaign of badassery didn't end there, by the end of the war, he managed to rack up 102 kills.
All these fellers were my mates. There wasn’t only me doing these things, there was other people doing things as well. And the things that I did, if I hadn’t done them, somebody else would have.” - Co.Sgt.Maj. Hollis #zerofucks #nofucks #stayzero #ww2 #uk
